Our mission – Scholars, activists, educators, policy makers, artists, and others world-wide have found a forum for their work in ISLS. Through its publications initiatives, ISLS seeks to:
- Look at language as both shaping and being shaped by historical, political, social, and cultural contexts
- Explore the relationships among language, power, discourses, and social practices
- Bridge arbitrary disciplinary territories through unique and emergent study and practices
- Provide a forum for both theoretical and empirical research, from existing and emergent research methodologies
- Initiate innovative ways to publish and disseminate the work of scholars, activists, educators, policy makers, artists, and others to a world-wide forum
WORLD-WIDE DISTRIBUTION OF BOOKS – Each book published with ISLS is assigned an ISBN number and Library of Congress call number. The book is listed with over 10,000 international and on-line (amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, borders.com, and others) bookstores and vendors. Ingram Book Company, the largest wholesaler of books in the United States, lists your book, enabling virtually any bookstore or volume book buyer in the world to order it. Your book is also listed by Bertram Books, a leading wholesaler of books in Great Britain.
PERSONALIZED SERVICE AND VALUED AUTHOR INPUT – Publishing your work with ISLS is a joint and cooperative venture. As an author, you are considered a member of our all-volunteer organization of scholars and practitioners. We believe the publishing process should be based on communication, mutual agreement, and the author’s knowledge of the work’s target audience.
COMPETITIVE PRICING – With multiple publication formats at its disposal (soft cover, hard cover, spiral bound, etc.), ISLS strives to make its publications affordable and accessible to target audiences. We believe the pricing process typical in publishing, characterized by over priced books, limited hard copy runs, and short shelf-life is an avoidable outcome. We seek stewardship in pricing by producing and publishing books that will be readily sought and purchased through quality control and a modest profit margin.
DIRECT, YEARLY, AND PERPETUAL MARKETING - ISLS will market your book using a combination of strategies, including direct electronic mailings, on-line advertising on the ISLS and book store websites, placement in the monthly ISLS newsletter, exhibition at the annual conference, and paper mailings. Your book will never go out of print. ISLS will keep all publications available for purchase in the present and future.
