If you would like to submit your manuscript to ISLS for consideration for one of its series, please follow the following steps
Chapter Proposals
For the Readings in Language Studies Volume Series and Emergent Scholars Volume Series, please consult the current call for contributions in the information section for each of these series. Generally, chapter proposals must consist of one document in MSWord with the following parts:
- Cover page with title and author(s) institutional affiliation and e-mail, phone, fax, and address.
- A 100-word abstract of the chapter, targeted strand, and at least three keywords.
- A complete chapter manuscript consisting of no more than 6,000 words (or 25 pages typed double space in Times New Roman font pt 12).
- The chapter manuscript must follow formatting guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 5th edition).
- All tables and figures must be formatted to a single page, grayscale or black and white, portrait orientation and adhere to APA style guidelines.
- Any copyrighted materials used in the manuscript must be accompanied with a statement of permission indicating their source; It is the author’s responsibility to seek and provide ISLS written documentation of permission for image use in the chapter.
Book Prospectuses
Proposals submitted as independent titles for the Readings in Language Studies Volume Series and the Course and Practice-Based Series, must include the following by e-mail attachment to:
publications@isls-inc.org
- A prospectus describing the: a) scope; b) content; c) length; d) audience; e) competition for the book.
- Include a table of contents and a detailed chapter by chapter outline, including back matter such as appendices, bibliographies, and the like.
- Indicate if there is to be art or tabular material and describe its nature and length; indicate if your manuscript will have permissions and releases and to what extent.
- If possible, include the introduction and one or two sample chapters. If you do include the entire manuscript, please indicate in your cover letter the three chapters that you feel are most representative of your book idea as a whole.
- Attach a resume for yourself and any contributing authors and/or editors.
- Include the names, titles and contact information for four colleagues who will send electronic letters of support for your prospectus. You should notify these colleagues and ask that they send the e-mail letter of support to publications@isls-inc.org (subject heading listing the title of the work). Only one of these colleagues may be from the author’s or editor’s home institution.
- The four letters of support must be e-mailed to publications@isls-inc.org. The e-mail should discuss the general demands for the book, the potential for its use with students, scholars, practitioners, and others, and how the colleague would personal use of the book in his or her practice.
