What are some indoor sports I can do?

Posted on April 19th, 2010 by admin in indoor sports

I want to lose weight, but I don’t want to get in the sun. What indoor sports can help me lose weight? Also, do you think it is a good idea to buy a gym membership?

Thanks!!!

First of all, yes, a gym membership is a good idea.

Regarding sports…it all depends on the type of sports you like. Some fun sports to play are indoor soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Swimming is also very good; it’s low-impact on the joints and works out many muscle groups at the same time.

If you would like to learn self defense, I would encourage you to join a gym and take cardio kickboxing classes or join a boxing/martial arts gym and learn self defense.

What is the best digital camera under $1000 for indoor sports shots without using a flash?

Posted on April 14th, 2010 by admin in indoor sports

I want to be able to shoot during basketball games and "freeze" the action without having to use a flash.

Almost any digital SLR will work- take the ISO to 800 or above and set the white balance for the artificial light. Your main concern here is having a fast lens, one with a 2.8 constant aperture and these aren’t cheap. You need to be able to shoot with the shutter set to at least 250th of a second. If you are shooting in a typical high school gym with typically horrible lighting, this might not be possible. I shoot volleyball with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens and it is perfect for getting net play from the back of the gym. Basketball doesn’t need that much lens- some shoot under the basket with a 50mm 2.8 or faster.

Can Basketball shoes be used for other indoor sports aswell?

Posted on April 11th, 2010 by admin in indoor sports

I bought a pair of shoes for my 15 year old daughter for gym class. They are basketball styled shoes, so they have the flat bottems. Is it a bad thing for her to wear these during gym class seeing as how they will be playing other sports then just basketball? I was thinking that since you run, jump and move from side to side in basketball, these shoes must be able to handle other sports too. Am i wrong?

They should be fine.
I use my basketball shoes to work-out in and for gym class.
There great for running, andthat’ss mostly what we do in our gym classes. =]
